If you would benefit from ASL translation, and there is a panel you want to attend on Saturday, please contact Access Services, and we can reschedule the Saturday translators.

We have a few number of silent movies with title cards on the schedule, and a number of the anime and other films may have subtitles, which may be of interest to deaf or hard of hearing attendees. Check the schedules outside the Film, Video and Anime rooms for more information.

Potential Panels of Interest:

Friday 7:00 pm Introduction to Arisia — 1hr 15min — Douglas (3W)

Is this your first time at Arisia? Maybe your first time at a con? Welcome! Our experienced panelists will give you tips on how to get the most out of the con, and on con survival in general.

Samantha Dings, Jacob Lefton, Shira Lipkin, Julia Suggs (m)

Saturday, 7pm Race, Gender & Disability Politics in Comics — 1hr 15min — Hancock (2)

How have politics influenced comics? What can't you believe saw print? Conversely, how do politics affect the writers, artists, and editors who publish our beloved books?

Alexa Dickman, Jaime Garmendia (m), Woodrow Hill, Donna Martinez, Gynn Stella Silva

Saturday, 2:30 pm Disability and Fandom — 1hr 15min — Carlton (3E)

Many fen have disabilities, and they aren't always obvious to the outside world. Are these disabilities barriers to full participation in the fannish community? What can conventions do to make sure every fan gets the full convention experience? What can all fans do to help their fellow fen who need it?

Cheryl Braverman, Stephanie Clarkson (m), Jaime Garmendia, Selkiechick, Bonnie Barlow Turner

Adult in Tow

People with disabilities attending Arisia who wish to bring a physical assistant may request a ribbon which will allow the assistant to go anywhere the attendee goes. If the physical assistant never leaves the side of the person with the paid membership that they're assisting, they can get a free "adult-in-tow" membership, otherwise if they wish to occasionally explore the convention on their own, they must get a paid membership.

Assistive Listening Devices

These are short-range, low-power (legal) FM transmitters that broadcast in the commercial band. So they can be picked up with any Walkman-style FM radio that's tuned to the correct frequency. They are NOT commercial Assisted Listening Devices (ALDs), and they have a very limited range -- generally speaking, one large room up to about 150 feet on a side (if the transmitter is in the center) (which is about the same range as the Conversor and probably all systems that don't require licenses). Whether they can be used with a hearing aid or not depends on the radio receiver and its headphones/earbuds/whatnot.
